Huge Black Marlin Caught in FNQ

For those who haven't yet seen them, check out these great photos of the record black marlin caught off Cairns, far North Queensland last week.

Weighing more than half a tonne the large female black marline was caught and tagged by first-time marlin angler Kiwi tourist Douglas Perry, aboard the Moana III and skippered by Dan McCarthy. 

Landed after a 15 minute fight, the 1200 lb monster black marlin, was taken off Opal Ridge, about 48 nautical miles north of Cairns.

The official record for a marlin caught stands at 1560 pounds.
